Happy New Year! :tada:
On behalf of the Brand Steering Committee, we want to sincerely thank everyone for your vote of confidence in our new brand, Symbol.

The final vote carried a weighted score of 3.32635% for YES.

The new year brings us a new brand and takes us forward toward exciting events around the launch of Symbol. The next phase has already begun and we want to share a few important updates with you:

  • Ticker POI vote will go live on mid-January (more details soon!) Sample ticker name options include the following community and agency recommendations:
    Symbol
    Symbl
    sYmbol
    XYM
    SYMX
    XSYM
    XBL

:bulb:Please note: Some of these name suggestions are not ISO 4217 compliant (which means to be compliant we would need to keep to 3 characters max.) Not all ticker names are ISO compliant but in general, ticker names are recommended to be between 3-5 characters. Due to various reasons, we are refraining from including the following ticker in this vote: CAT, NEM, XEM, SYM (there are already multiple SYMs).

  • Symbol Brand Guidelines and Visual Guide (English version) will be available at end-January. These guidelines will give a comprehensive overview of the following: font and typography, logo specification and usage, color palette, images (as well as image use specification), text and tone, visual examples to support each rule, asset usage (including trademark guidelines), overview of brand vision and personality, and more.

  • Symbol Brand Guidelines and Visual Guide (Localized versions) will be available by mid-February.

Many of you have asked about community usage around the trademark policy and while this will be specified in the final Guidelines, we did want to share that the trademarks will be open to our community but will also need to be followed so the brand is not misused, used to deceive or mislead others. More details will be forthcoming on this.

  • New branding will be slowly phased into marketing channels, development tools and guides, PR, and communication. In general, branding adoption can take up to 3+ months to fully implement once final assets are delivered.

  • Lastly, the agency and legal teams have moved forward with remaining trademark filings in various regions.

Congratulations again, everyone! Please leave a comment below if you have questions or concerns.

Thank you,
The Brand Steering Committee

Hello! Could you explain what does XBL means? XBT = Bitcoin, but XBL = X+symBoL?
I like SYMX and XSYM because here is something from XEM. But sYmbol is a good alternative too.
Thanks a lot for your work.

I recall XBL was from a community member who was sounding out the word Symbol and trying to keep ticker to 3 letters. So like XEM with the “zzz” sound but then BL to represent the rest of “mmmbol”.

“XYM” is better among the suggestions

Pronunciation close to “SYM”
And that
String reminiscent of “XEM”

“XYM” is attractive as long as “SYM” cannot be used

XEM+SYMBOL= XYMBOL = XYM

XEM => XYM

XYM = XimageM

I love it

XYM is it in my opinion

a 3 letters starting with x and close towards sistercoin xem

and spoken as ZIM its sound fit well to symbol

and the central Y
which is the coin logo symbol and can be used for lot effects turn logo in coin ticker and reverse

Your intentions were well transmitted to me

Someone who accepts your suggestion is apparently coming out

if we think big its relevant that on some places where currenciues are shown there is a 3 letter limit. and some standardisation also suggest a starting X. that is reason why BTC also is known as XBT

“XBT” is a new abbreviation for Bitcoin that is starting to come into use, and reflects its growing legitimacy as an international currency.

The abbreviation “XBT” comes from the International Standards Organization (ISO) that maintains a list of internationally recognized currencies. The standard dictates that if a currency is not associated with a particular country, it should begin with an “X”, hence “XBT”. Another example of this is the abbreviation for gold, “XAU”.

so if we think symbol can become something then it make sense to follow into this ISO naming system from start on. it also show the world where we think we belong to. not one of hundret blockchain projects BUT instead one of the few that will be global relevant in the upcoming years

and it was exact the same idea why NEM did choose XEM as ticker

Symbl is imho terrible. It could easily be another projects name spelled out.
sYmbol is imho also pretty awful. You just know that all the exchanges won’t get that casing right.

XYM is my favorite, but I’d be just as fine with SYMX, XSYM.

I love the ticker XYM too but am eager to to have more folks join in on the name for the ticker. I think this version is an elegant solution to honor old and new. It’s 3 letters, which is ideal. I’m looking forward to hearing more feedback from community on it.

I agree Symbol.

XYM is the best ticker plan.

because, “E” of XEM changes “Y” of SYMBOL.

and the pronounciation of XYM is like “C” of Cataplut, I guess.

SBN (Symbol By NEM) is another option

The reasoning for XYM sounds fair, I checked with the list of currency codes by country and there isn’t XYM yet as well - https://www.iban.com/currency-codes

I want to propose SBL and SYB.
For example, ETH and BTC are not ISO compliant. No reason to stick to X.
SBL and SYB can be read as Symbol.

But I understand branding teams are no longer seeking community input.
