The worst ussue I have found with sensors on the internet is that they require an IP address which in turn requires bandwidth allocation and usually an associated cost from an ISP, not to mention managing each of those IP connections.
Of course you can use wifi or rf transmitters yet these have limitations on distance and location, also require extra hardware and will ultimately be dependant on an internet connection for remote access.

Figure out a business model where you can give the sensors for free. Seems maybe awkward in this system but maybe…
