Sorry, I’ve messed something up again. I just created a secondary account (for the wallet I imported the private key) but not only does it a different address to the address of my original secondary account (in the original wallet), but even the private key is different from the primary accounts. Primary account private key starts “1781…” and the secondary account private key starts “50fe…” How did that happen…?
The good news is that I just did the entire test again (new original offline wallet, newly sent funds, new online wallet on a different computer) and everything has worked
But I’d still be interested in getting back the funds from the secondary account of the original test, just so I know it’s possible more than anything…
Private key of primary and secondary are not the same, private keys are unique to accounts.
If you log into the original wallet (where you created the secondary) and create an account again (if the secondary is not there anymore) it’ll generate the secondary again.
Oh, I see what you mean, just get the secondary private key from the original wallet? I’ll try that now.
If you have the original wallet you should be able to log into the secondary account that has your funds.
It is important to remind that:
- A wallet is a file that contain a primary account with a private key
- The primary private key allow to generate the same secondary accounts (if you use the same password)
- Each secondary account has an unique private key
To backup a wallet we recommend to store the .wlt file but also the primary private key and the password so you can easily retrieve all your secondary accounts from one private key (and a password).
Great, I’ve recovered funds from both offline-generated wallet now. So you mean when I SIGN UP with a new “Private key wallet” I have to use the same password I used in the original wallet in order for it to generate the same set of secondary accounts in the new wallet?
Great
Yes, if you import a primary account
Got it Great, thanks again and sorry it’s been a bit confusing, I think I understand it properly now!
No problem, it is confusing ^^
Will try to clarify things a bit more in next versions
