Cannot use Nano Wallet with Tunnel Bear VPN?

I’m in Vietnam now and when I use my VPN service (Tunnel Bear) I cannot connect to any nodes and therefore cannot load my info. Without VPN it loads fine but I get the error trying to fetch market data.
Sometimes market data apis are blocked here so I tried to use a VPN so it loads (maybe that’s not the reason).

Not sure if this is a bug or not so posted here first.

Having a similar using nanowallet with tunnel bear in Asia.

The node I’m connected to has a red circle and my wallet appears empty with no history of transactions.

I’m also unsure, after the wallet .json upgrade should I be loading the new .wlt wallet file or the .json?

Thanks.

Edit - Extra question. If I run the new NIS standalone and selected ‘localhost’ from the node list in the Nanowallet am I connecting to my own full node?

If so this may solve the issue.

Just want to bump this and see if anyone can help me and the OP.

VPN per se is not a problem, but it might be that your provider is blocking some ports. 7890 is what you need open I think.

having a local NIS won’t solve the issue as that NIS will still need to connect to the rest of the network.

Tunnel Bear VPN uses 443 or 7011, and there’s a feature called Ghost bear where it uses ports 45578 or 3389. Still get the same issue.

Doesn’t matter which ports they use to connect you to their network. What matters is whether or not they allow you to connect on the ports nem uses through their network.

I see, the port connection does seem to get killed when the VPN is turned on.

Thanks for the info @memario!
