Is this a shequel? http://unicode-table.com/en/20AA/

It looks cool to me.

From here https://trello.com/c/mseUldDs/119-currency-symbol, many ideas were put forth for a currency symbol.

The best idea I have seen so far is to use ℵ (http://unicode-table.com/en/2135/). Any ideas?

My concern is the similarity with other "N" looking coins. Writing wise, this is the same as "N" which is confusing.

Out of those three, maybe the first one. The other two look too amateurish. Even the first one is debatable as it's a bit hard to draw properly by hand.

Ok. Maybe we can give a twist to this one? But I really like as it is :)

from spring's archives:

the requirement of handwriting would make the rightmost symbols (from 1. and 2. rows) more suitable than the other in that image.

The community should not avoid difficult discussions or situations. Basically the community should decide, not one person. There has been different committees, which should contain trusted persons for the pre-selection work.

But... you're right that "vote" may cause "drama". Depends on the selected voting system, tho.

Theoretically a vote should not cause any drama. The majority wins, end of story. This is how a democratic system works. However, with that being said, having a community vote on something like this may be flawed, and I will explain why.

I've seen many other cryptocurrencies voting on things related to design and aesthetics. However, the reality is that most people here and in general have no experience in this field. Art and design is a specialized field, just like anything else. Having a vote on something like a logo or a currency symbol is something that should be left up to a trusted professional. Otherwise, it would be like voting on specific changes to the codebase when the majority of the community does not even know the first thing about coding.

Many people refuse to believe that art/design is something that can only be done by a professional. Everyone thinks they just inherently know what looks good and what does not, but that simply is not true. I feel that any decision for NEM related to design aesthetics be left to a trusted professional in that field, or at least someone who has demonstrated that they have the knowledge required to make those decisions. People are always going to complain about such a decision because it does not fit what they feel looks good in their eyes. But those are untrained eyes, and such an opinion should be completely disregarded (at least, that's how I feel about it).

I only say this as someone who has a faint background in art and design (I am an artist in my spare time and have a bit of formal training), and I know all too well how people without the requisite training can be severely misguided in terms of what makes an effective design and what does not.

Anyway, that's just my opinion. If the community would prefer to have a vote for this sort of thing, then that is not my decision to make. Just wanted to throw my thoughts into the mix. :)

There are 2 different things in art and professionalism:
1. doing it (creating, building, planning, finalizing, etc)
            - this may require professionalism

2. using it (liking, enjoying, listening, setting a painting to the wall, etc)
          - this does not require professionalism

When we discuss about selecting a logo or a currency symbol to NEM community, then it is about 'using it'.
The problem comes, when one must decide which logo or picture is the best:
the 'using it' is not a "YES" or "NO" issue.
It is more like an "8 points to this and 7 points to that" issue.
Some people can say that liking is yes or no, but many people can like many similar things. Then the scale must be something else than 0 and 1.

Edit:
with discussion the professional people can share their visions with other people, and that may give new points of view. After discussion everyone has his/hers own view, and that can not be "wrong".

Second thought ... this all above is based on that assumption that each member of the community honestly thinks of the best of the NEM. :)

I hope you all realise that the character "N" is used in the the crypto world. Introducing another "N" looking character is going to confuse this even more. N= Namecoin, NBC, NAN, NAV?

I think one has to be very careful with choosing the right character. Personally, I'd stay away from the character N as much as possible and have another character that is somewhat "n" looking but easy to write rather than "N" looking.
