Difference between Seed vs. Opt-in Account?

So we are getting this message "This account is obtained by an older derivation. It is recommended that you move the funds to a Seed Account "

  1. Why is that?
  2. What happens if we don’t move it, is there any risk?
  3. Do we have to make a XYM transfer or is there any other method?
  4. Does the paper wallet become useless after the transfer to the Seed Account, or is it still valid as a backup?

Hello.
It means that opted-in account was generated using bitcoin curve instead this one used by Symbol. There is no security risk but it’s suggested to move coins to your Seed account.
Mnemonic is enough to restore all of these accounts (optin and not optin).

So to move it to the Seed account, it has to be transferred it all out to the new address?

Yes. If you want move you need to send all from optin address to seed address which you see in wallet.

Thank you.
This is a bit off topic, but I was wondering if this is necessary to become a SuperNode

Wouldn’t there be a small fee to move it from Opt-in to Seed?

There will be normal fee for transfer transaction.
