In order for NEM to be successful, it needs a vibrant ecosystem ready upon launch of V1.
In particular, we can think of two epic projects that should work synergisticaly with the NEM system to create a sustainable ecosystem. These projects are:
- mobile app
- high frequency exchange (especially including fiat)
In 2014, it is crazy to think that any crypto project or movement like ours can be successful without a mobile app. We need to make mobile payments a part of everyday life. It has to be dead simple and safe to use. NEM business rules should help secure mobile accounts.
A high frequency exchange, especially including fiat, is absolutely required for NEM to stand on its own apart from other currencies. Rather than doing a centralized exchange on a separate website, we want to launch an initiative to do this in the asset exchange
These epic projects cost a lot of money. To fund these, it is proposed that some sort of crowdfunding project be done. Any ideas?

RocketHead brought forth the idea of selling limited-edition NEM silver and gold coins with cold wallets attached to them containing NEM, as a way to raise funds for these epic projects.
I think this is an excellent idea! It will help create a tangible connection to NEM, as well as raise money in a way that will give people a hedge against worthless fiat (because silver and gold are intrinsically valuable). It will also give people a way to convert some of their crypto holdings to precious metals. I think this is a win-win for everyone!
The mobile app shouldn't be to hard to get done however the exchange will require a lot of work. There will be many different laws from countries that will have to be addressed, if this can be accomplished then NEM will have a huge advantage.
This really would be a epic project!

To produce brass coins the cost is minimum 5$/coin with hologram, if you take 100 coins. I don't know how much would silver and golden coins cost.

Would love to see something like that built for NEM. Mobile app should normally be much more easier to create, on the other hand if we would have a high frequency exchange I think that could attract some interesting people into NEM.

The problem with brass coins is that they aren't worth anything intrinsically. At least silver and gold are valuable, not only as money but for many industrial and scientific uses.
