Error 306 - see edit in top post for solution

EDIT:  This was a thread about issues on Mac, solved for me after help from many people, by jabo38s's guide using the Java developer's kit, see here:

https://forum.ournem.com/newcomers-help/how-to-get-nem-started-on-a-mac/

so please disregard the rest of thread as I was probably sowing confusion in my ignorance  ::slight_smile:

Hi guys - appreciate any help you can give

On a Mac here.  Unfortunately skills limited to using stuff on it, not tinkering with settings so much.
Followed all the Mac instructions at http://wiki.nemcoin.com/index.php?title=Software#Downloads
Do have Java 8 downloaded.
I'm getting "oops - error 306"  when I try & boot the local node from in the wallet.
NCC and NIS are both already running.
I've already opened & closed the wallet a few times with auto boot on…
Any ideas?  I've tried multiple times to do this, I'm computer literate-ish in terms of using stuff but no power user, running all that stuff in terminal was fine but I'm not about to start ad-libbing in there.
Hoping to be able to convert my 0.1 nemstake! shame to miss the deadline, I've been trying this on & off for about 10 days…

Thanks

jk

Hi nembot,

can you provide the logs for NIS/NCC?

Bloody Rookie

Hi NEMbot,

I am not that techie of a guy.  I got NEM running on my Mac a couple of times but not lately.  The Windows install is super easy, basically just update to the latest java and single click on the webstart and the rest gets pretty much done for you.  The only problem is waiting around for the blockchain.

I think the problem for me the latest time I tried to install on my Mac was that I needed to set the Java security lower, but their wasn't an option to do that for me.

Honestly if I had to put NEM on my mac, it would be easier for me to install parrallels, then windows, then chrome, then java, and then NEM. hahaha.  But I am not that good at these things.

I do know other people have got it working on a Mac just fine and other people on Linux too (I failed on Ubuntu), so it is possible.  Hopefully somebody will give you a tip.

@ NemBot: I would like to say even on windows machines you have to wait about 1 minute or more until the red strip on browser become yellow allowing you to login and use the wallet, or even create the wallet.

Try let Nem Web client running for some time.

On linux you have to access the Nem's folder an do a: ./nix.runNis.sh first, to start the Nem infraestructure servers and then a:

./nix.runNcc.sh  to start the web client.

After that you just need to access the webBrowser ( whith the java 8's plugin) on the: 127.0.0.1:8989

on mac I have no Ideia cause the system security.

=)

Hi - thanks guys.  @Bloody Rookie I will see if I can get the logs, any tips on how I do that?  I'll look into it anyway
Cheers

I'm no Bloody Rookie, but if you do a search for some of the folders, shown in pic bellow, you'll probably find it.

I'm using windows 8 at this machine. The location will not be the same for you.

Hi nembot,

the NIS log says that the database is already accessed by another program and can therefore not be opened.
Please check if there is any Java process running and kill it. Then try again.

Bloody Rookie

Ok thanks will try out

this is crazy have spent hours trying to sort it.  Shut down and de-installed all java processes, reinstalled everything including NCC, NIS, NOM - still won't sync with block chain & can't boot local node (creates & accesses wallet ok)

When I bought the nemstake share on AE it didn't occur to me that there wouldn't be a working mac wallet for those of us who aren't linux/command line/terminal competent.

I've been trying to dual boot my mac to windows but without much success as don't actually have a licensed windows boot disk so lost in a world of dodgy downloads & keygens.

Can one of the administrators help out here?  Surely there must be a way of me redeeming my nemstake despite "only" having a mac?

I've been on the forums daily for the last couple of weeks.  I know macs aren't value for money for those who like to tinker with the workings of their computers - but I bought one so I wouldn't have to… am I excluded from the new economic movement??  ha ha only joking but still - how will I claim the stake?

Have you tried the standalone version ?
AFAIK only the webstart version currently makes problems.

Hi nembot,

Can you supply the fulls logs to me via pm? The nis logs are in c:\user\<your user name>\nem\nis\logs on windows and home/nem/nis/logs on linux systems.

Bloody Rookie
