File format of wallet file

What file format is the wallet file, if any?

For NCC it is an encrypted .wlt file.

I was wondering about this as well. When the file is downloaded it has no file extension.

you are probably using Safari ? save a copy of that file adding the .wlt extension

the .wlt from NanoWallet is a base64 encoded & JSON formatted file. It contains your private key encrypted with your password.

the .wlt file from NCC can be imported to NanoWallet but the file will need an upgrade when you Import it and it will re-download a new version of the .wlt file. I recommend using NanoWallet. I’m not sure about the format and encoding of the NCC .wlt file.

Thanks! I am using Safari - as well as the Nano wallet. Do you know if it matters what the main file name is? For example, could I rename it “backup.wlt” and store it elsewhere?

yes you can, there shouldnt be a problem.

Using Safari I have to point out there is a bug with that file, your localStorage will always need you to re-import the file, if i recall correctly… I would recommend to switch to Chrome or Firefox to avoid any bad behaviour about this… But if you feel it’s ok to re-import the .wlt everytime you want to login, then go ahead, as long as you don’t lose this .wlt file, you are safe

So far I’ve been able to sign in and out of my wallet without reimporting the file, so I’m good there. Thanks for your feedback on this! I’ve renamed it and moved to a flash drive.
