I want to contribute to the community with my full node setup but I am not comfortable with exposing my ip risking hacker attacks. There should be a way to mask my ip and perhaps forward traffic to the ip for those who wish the connect to the full node.
How should masking your IP work?
I am not too technical but perhaps each ip has an alias name that redirects traffic to the server. At the very least it isn’t broadcasting to the world that there is a computer with that ip address opened for hacking. Personal servers are usually not as secured as business servers and often contain our NEM account information.
Edit: What I am referring to is this page that lists node ips http://chain.nem.ninja/#/nodes/
This is a list of super nodes. Even building a full node is not posted on this list.
The difference between full node and super node, I think that this post will be helpful.
My ip shows up once I open the port. Also, if ip/alias are not listed how would people know which node to connect to when setting up delegate harvest? Isn’t that the point of a full node contributing to the community? Sorry if I misunderstand, I just found out and got on board NEM last week.
I will contact you shortly.
I misunderstood.
Now I tried a single full node. It certainly went on the list.
It is continuation.
In NanoWallet, there is a setting to specify the server that performs delegated harvesting.
What is displayed here is a list of super nodes. It will not be reflected in the list unless you register manually.
Servers that are Avtive on this site can accept deligated harvesting.
In NanoWallet, it is displayed in the pull-down menu, and the user can select any server.
When specifying Full Node, you need to enter FQDN or IP address manually.
Yep, that is normal and even if nembex (the node explorer http://chain.nem.ninja/#/nodes/) didn’t show the node then a hacker still can use the NIS api to discover all nodes that have the port 7890 open.
If you are afraid of hackers then you shouldn’t let your computer run as full node (i.e. keep the port closed)…
