Get people interrested in cryptocurrencies

So i just watched a few videos about bitcoin on youtube.

And yes I know the youtube comment section is not the hight of human conversation skills but i always find quite a few comments that seem extremely uninformed.

Everything from
the oldschool economist " bitcoin is a scam because no INTRINSIC VALUE" ( actually can't argue about the intrinsic value part much )
to
the hardcore conspiracy freak "bitcoin is made by the CIA…new world order…cashless society…we are all gonna die." ( thoose are pretty funny actually )

Most of the people that hear about cryptocurrencies in the news, and believe bitcoin and co are just for buying drugs and so on.
If cryptocurrencies want broad adoption we need to teach people what cryptos really are, not talking about highly technical stuff, but some basic information,

This video is actually pretty good but still too technical for most people ( I believe )
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lx9zgZCMqXE

Maybe we can compile a list of the most common misconceptions, and maybe some talented people could make a video about cryptos, not just bitcoin but also 2nd gen cryptos like NEM, explain shortly what POW and POS / POI is and give them an introduction to our neat little community, and how shit actually works,
who writes the code and why people can trust it, and so on.

we could even join forces with other 2nd gen cryptos like NXT, after all we all profit from it.

also lets code more Tipbots, there is a bitcoin tipbot on youtube called +ChangeTip, can we get something similar?
I am pretty sick right now but when i get better i will code a NEM tipbot for IRC. ( I know i wanted to do this for a long time, i am sorry about that )

+1

About POW, POS and POI and their counterparts in the "real world" or maybe should be said the "old world":

POW : the richest is the one, who has the most powerful weapons and army, he can take other's money

POS : this seems to relate to the current reality, which is too economical
http://www.gothamgazette.com/iotw/lobbying/doc1.shtml
The wise people have told that in democratic world every man should have 1 vote. But it is not so. In the current world every dollar has 1 vote. And therefore the richest man has the best lobbyists, and in the end he will get his ideas completed. He will build the world ...

POI : this will need more "calculations" and definitions ... even in crypto world.
NEM can be the first test. :)

Most common misconception by the average Joe Bloe:

Bitcoin is an organisation that issues some "cryptic" coin that are used to finance criminal activities such as drugs, pornography and terrorism. It is also used for money laundering. Further, it is a scam and a ponzi scheme out to cheat people.

This has been the message by Governments and banksters through the media for the last 5+ years. Read anything negative and you will see that most bad news are about one of the above. The irony is as if it does not happen in real world of fiat money!

The masses mostly know bitcoin only. The rest of the altcoins are mostly unknown to them. They think it is all the same one bitcoin.

To educate the masses, we need to pull away from the word altcoin. We need to say that we are an ecosystem and platform to do things never been that easy, eg. Instant transfer of money electronically without going through bank, low transaction fee, etc.  We need to educate people that governments and banks are resisting it because they know their days are numbered with fiat. Message has to be subtle though because governments and banks won't like it.

Yes, we need a strategy that is totally different in approach. No one wants to know what POI is. Everyone wants to know how easy it is being accepted and used. It is now Proof of Use that needs to be promoted!

Cuz FIAT has so much intrinsic value ? That's not an oldschool economist, that just someone that doesn't have any idea what he's talking about :) (Unless he's a REALLY old economist. Like when people were trading chunks of gold)

Yup. Money is a perceived value and therefore, contrary to "old school economists" beliefs, it is extrinsic in value. Money has been around for thousands of years. These "old school economists" would have died a thousand times over.

The reality is money is the biggest scam of all time. We have been made to believe for over a thousand years and still counting, that money is "real". It is just as valuable as a bitcoin - extrinsic -  a perceived value.

I was thinking about targeting people from different subcultures. Mainstream fashion victims will be last people to use it as usually, we have to go for more independently thinking kinds o people. Forums are good places. Im sure you are active in different forums that specialize in areas that maybe wears some stigma. Those kinds of people dont care much for media, they feel unique and different, they are more likely to be part of something not approved by mainstream trendy assholes that just mimick each other.

We should really organize and bring NEM to subcultures we are active in. And we should do giveaways. Not push NEM on people telling them to buy it, but give NEM to new blood to try it and see, many people will realise potential of it.

I would even teach them how to sell NEM on exchange and how to sell bitcoins for FIAT (in case there wont be FIAT NEM gateway yet), because then it stucks in their minds… they will be checking NEM and Bitcoin price, come back and buy some themselves… The most important thing is not pushing it on them, just lightly suggest that they can try new technology for free, getting taste of future an even make few bucks.

That is why Im advocating fund for these strategic giveaways…but dont give them cent give them bucks…they will appreciate it. We can afford to be generous in the beggining. We got our NEM almost for free, they should get some too.
