Guide: Creating and saving real account data

I wrote this guide to help people creating and saving real account data safely.

Edit: If you already created your real account data but didn't do it safely, you can just create a new account with the help of this guide and delete the old one.

It is a suggestion only. There are other ways to do it safely.

Thanks for the initiative. ;)

Awesome, thanks! I wish I wasn't so busy IRL so I could help out more. :c

using keepassX or keepass2 as in your guide would be fine?
i'm using keepassX in my desktop.

I am using Keypass and like it a lot too.

KeePassX should be fine, too. Its is open source like KeePass.

With KeePass 2 (currently 2.28) you probably mean KeePass v2 which is KeePass Professional Edition, see here: http://keepass.info/download.html

@jabo38s: Keypass? Not Keepass?

In NEM guides should be NO relations to any other software.
Why there is a step for Keepass?

Because it's a very safe way to store sensitive information

In NEM guides should be NO relations to any other software.
Why there is a step for Keepass?

Why not? KeePass is open source.

Why KeePass, why not some other SW or method.
NEM should treat all equally. NEM should be neutral for 3 party apps, even they are (currently) freeware.

The keepass 2 is free for windows and linux machines. On windows the last one is the V 2.27. On linux I have no ideia. Just do a: sudo apt-get keepass2 or something like that and be happy. I just need to teel you: use the keepass 2 (2.2x) and not the one (1.x). My friend lost all his pass 3 weeks ago on the keepass v1 cause broken encryption data. [emoji6]

Good job,[url=https://forum.ournem.com/index.php?action=profile;u=39]mixmaster.  :slight_smile:

@Parana:
The latest version is 2.28: http://keepass.info/news/n141008_2.28.html
If you use Mono on Linux, you can run the .exe from the zip archive. But of course there is other good open source software, too. Like nemparty mentioned, there is KeePassX for example.

@nxkoil:
KeePass is open source and therefore not only "currently" free :wink: But as I wrote in the OP: It is a suggestion only. If people know what they are doing, other software will be fine, too. One of the main goals of the guide was to keep it as simple as possible. It is for those who aren't sure which software should be used for password saving at all.

@xtester:
Thanks :wink:

guys,when using keepass remember to test your master password on https://howsecureismypassword.net/ or using a key file.

I wouldn't enter my real passwort there. I wouldn't enter my password anywhere besides keepass.

Just watch this video and you will understand what a good or bad password is:

if you enter in keepass, keepass will tell you how strong your password is in bits.. then just google "how strong is a xxxbit password".

i use 2 data base files on 2 different usbs.. one database holds the key for the other that contains my passphrase. so someone would actually have to have both usb's and hack the password for the first one(its weaker so i can remember it) in order to gain access to the other, unhackable database.

What if you lose one of them?
I hope you have backups of both...
