Harvesting + XEM total amount and cap

‘harvested’ XEM are basically ‘transaction fees’ paid by the users for their transactions which have been recorded into the blockchain by ‘the harvester’. Is that correct, or do ‘harvested’ XEM orginate from elsewhere?
What is the total amount of XEM? Is it capped? If it is capped, then how is that capping secured, what guarantees are there that the cap will not be changed and more XEM introduced?
Those might be some basic questions, but I was unable to find clear answers to them yet. Thanks.

Foundation has some xem set aside for harvesting.
It is not sustainable at present.
Harvested xem comes from an account set aside for this.
It does not replenish itself, its simply an expense of running the public chain.
total amount of xem is 8,999,999,999 xem, total supply available.

In two or three years the rewards for harvesting will be depleted, unless they invoke a sustainable option.

Personally I feel Catapault should address this issue.
If It does or not, no idea, but yeah harvesting is a limited resource with an end date.

How do I know this? Well once upon a time I was privy to Nemberia.

If ‘harvesting’ is currently not sustainable and let’s say the ‘rewards pool’ for it is depleted, then what?
Are the following transactions recorded into the blockchain without any transaction fees by those ‘harvesters’ that choose to stay and keep ‘harvesting’ even without any gain for themselves? Wouldn’t it be more rational for the ‘top harvesters’ to cash out of XEM at that point?
Can NEM actually keep running without the incentive of gaining ‘free’ XEM for ‘harvesting’?

IMO unless NEM is shown and proven to be capable of operating indefinitely, I do not see how it can be a good long term investment. And I see people mainly talking about NEM in long term context. Thanks.

Disregard post it is wrong.
-----Harvesting comes from an account, when it runs dry, no harvest.
From what I can tell harvest is at present a hand out.
Yes harvest has nil to do with blockchain it is merely an account that will run dry in time, just like a ponzi, unless they get their shit together.----

You’r talkin about the nodes runners and supernode guys, yeah, the income is not generated by blockchain tech, it is simply an account that will dry up in time.

@xemnewbie
Harvest are not paid by foundation!
Harvest fees are from transactions and only transactions. If harvester find a block it takes all transaction fees from it. And that’s all.
You mess harvesting with supernodes fund.

And yes total XEM supply is 899999999 and it will be no more. About technical how it’s secured you must speak discuss with some devs in @nemprojects

So harvesting IS SUSTAINABLE!
Thanks for clearing that up, I thought it came from a fund.
