Have ANY Mac users got a local node booted? YES - see edited 1st post

EDIT:  Ok massive thanks to jabo38s, patmast3r, Parana, BloodyRookie & mixmaster for all helping me to sort this.

jabo38s's guide here is what I finally used: https://forum.ournem.com/newcomers-help/how-to-get-nem-started-on-a-mac/

plus I stretched myself & downloaded linux & booted my mac into linux mint & can confirm that webstart works with normal Java 8 on linux mint 17.  jabo38s's guide using the Java developer's kit is much easier though!

Has ANYONE on Mac OSX got this working?

I have a problem because the documentation thinks it solves the problem by saying - "in Java, set security permissions to medium"

But it requires Java 8 & in Java 8, minimum permission setting is High.  Adding the various websites involved to the trusted list makes no difference at all.  I can't seem to sync with the network.

Java problems mean I can't use stand-alone version, & webstart seems to work nicely - i get the splash page, can make a wallet, log into wallet, but them get a yellow bar saying "NIS requires to be booted. Please open your wallet and boot a local node via the popup dialog or configure the auto-boot setting".  From inside the wallet or from auto boot, I can just never seem to contact the network.  I've added nemcoin as a port forwarding/triggering thing & opened the 7890 (see separate thread: https://forum.ournem.com/index.php?topic=2676.msg9336#msg9336 ) - totally at the outer limits of my abilities here but the guys thought I'd done it right…

To be honest I'm not sure - maybe the problem isn't Java.  The main message I'm getting is Error 306 (when trying to boot a local node from inside the web wallet.  Can anyone tell me what that is?

Various people have spent their own time trying to help me, and I really appreciate it.  These are mainly devs/hero members who are on PCs and know how it SHOULD work.  It doesn't seem to though.  I'm not allowed to use the stand-alone version due to Java permissions lock-down, and the webstart version I can start NIS/NCC but when I try to boot a local node, either by auto-boot or from in the wallet - it never works…

instead of wasting the dev's time, is there anyone using a Mac who has actually managed to get their node sync'ed who can give me some pointers?

I'd be very grateful.  Thanks very much if anyone can help… & to the devs - please do make smoothing the Mac process a priority.  I know it's not the dev/hacker's tool of choice, but I bought this mac 2nd hand for music production, it does the job, i can't afford 2 computers & I'm sure I'm not the only one struggling with this…

Best wishes,

John

I found out you can bypass the java security settings in the stand alone by pressing control will clicking on the Jar file.  Then click open.

But I still couldn't get it to run.  After that I got an error message.

Care to tell us which error message ?

Like seriously ... for the 0.1 Nemstake I have, and the 0.2 I might try & buy on Thursday when I get paid...  I've put in at least 10 hrs of work already.  Like 90 mins-2hrs about 6 times.

What is Java permissions lock-down and why is it keeping you from using standalone ?

What exactly is there error message you are getting when trying to boot NIS ?

Can you post your logs ? I'm not sure where they are located on mac though (use paste-bin or upload a zip, dont flat out post it here please)

Step 1: You will need the developers kit of Java.  Go here and download the version for Mac.
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk8-downloads-2133151.html

Step 2: Download the stand alone version of NEM from here http://bob.nem.ninja (get the latest version)

Step 3: unpack the file to the desktop and if done correctly, you should see a folder called

patmast3r & jabo38s thanks very much for your replies.  just in middle of working a night shift.  I'm going to try dual booting linux to see if that works, before I do that I'll delete everything, reinstall, recreate the problem and then upload logs somewhere for you patmast3r.

jabo38s I will also download the developer's kit & try what you said.  all that is at least 3-4 hrs work for someone like me so sorry to not get straight back to you - I appreciate the help though & once I've had a nap after work I'll be straight on it.

patmast3r by saying java permissions lock-down I was being colloquial, I just mean that I think it's the fact that Java permission can't be set to Medium, that is stopping me from opening the downloaded nis-ncc-0.4.30.tgz file.  But perhaps I'm mistaken.  In any case the "must use Java 8/Java 8 doesn't have Medium security option" & Java files failing to open on my Mac seems to be part of the problem.

In terms of trying to boot a local node from the wallet - that is always error 306.

Anyway sorry for half an answer but have to go.  Will furnish info asap

Thanks again
