Hi

I am new to NEM and I want to buy some NEM. Is there an exchange yet where I can buy NEM for Bitcoin? The client seems to me that it is sill beta. Is it recommendable to install it to create a private key or is it just for testing issues? Is there a faucet where to get the first NEM for testing?

believe it or not we dont have a live net blockchain yet. we are still on test net and have not launched.

you can buy 0.1 - 1 nemstake (1 nemstake = 1m nem) on the nxt asset exchange though and the stakes will be redeemed for real nem after launch.

you can buy nxt on bter and you will have to create a nxt account and use the nxt client to buy nemstake. are you familiar with nxt/brain wallets?

Welcome nemster :). Yes you can buy Nemstakes on the NXT exchange. You can buy any amount of stakes. The exact conversion might differ from the initial 1 NEMSTAKE= 1 Million NEM. Most likely you'll get double or more. You have to download the beta software to generate your real NEM address which will be used for sending your stake to. Please visit here - https://forum.ournem.com/beta-launch-discussion/nem-beta-0-4-39/ to download the beta software.
After you generate the address and private key( make sure you save it securely somewhere in two places, just incase :wink: ) , you have to send the Nemstake to NXT-97MX-EWKV-CGKX-DA5WH  to redeem it and wait for the launch.

To be precise: 1  NEM stake = 1/4000th of the total amount of NEM. The total amount isn't decided yet but it seems it will be 8 999 999 999 coins.
