How to harvest?

Hi,

i download the wallet but it wont allow me to harvest. I says i need some transactions first?? But i have no XEM to transfer or anything. My wallet is TCZSFA-ZBI25P-WP4OA2-4AVGKS-LGMH5S-CCRDJJ-5JFW

sent you a good lump of XEM. :slight_smile:

you should be able to start local harvesting straight away, but your balance will take quite a while to become fully vested so you should see a gradual increase in your importance so long as you do some transactions and dont "hoard" the coins. :slight_smile:

you have to wait until i think 1000 or 10000 have been vested.. your vested balance is the amount you can harvest with. im not sure how long it will take for that amount to vest but it should be too long i dont think. you can see your vested balance below your actual balance i think

Each day 10% of the unvested balance is vested. To harvest after 24 h after receiving XEM, the amount should be minimum 100k XEM. So if you got 1M XEM or 100k XEM, you have to wait 1 day, if you got 20k XEM, you have to wait several days.

I seem to be in the same boat, but with 1000 XEM.  Just to confirm with 1000 XEM i'll need to wait 10 days or so in order to start harvesting, is the 6 hour wait just for those that have a balance around 249,994.00 XEM as shown in the delegated harvesting guide. http://blog.nem.io/how-to-use-delegated-harvesting/

Or does this only apply to local harvesting?

Ahhh, it looks like local or delegated harvesting doesn't matter ERROR 700 will show up if the requirement of vested 1000 XEM is not met, perhaps the error message should say vested rather than just 1000 XEM. 

So at this time I'm just waiting for the balance to become vested… Will the entire balance of a wallet become vested or only a fraction of the balance?

I think it is 10,000 XEM vested balance, which you will need. The client is wrong at this.

im a bit confused cause of the different information. some say 10k, client says 1k…

you need at least 10000 XEM, all of them vested.

The nem FAQ page states "10,000" note the balance needs to be vested. It's most likely safe to assume the dev's are well aware that this message is off and will likely update said error message(s) in the not so distant future.

so if you have 100,000 XEM after one day you will have a vested account of 10,000 XEM, but if you have 30,000 XEM it might take you 4 days to get a vested account of 10,000 XEM

Hi I just started looking into Nem and it seems really great, I want to start harvesting and it seems you need 300 nem to start? If so any help would be greatly appreciated :slightly_smiling_face:

Im right there with you Nemiskewl, from my research this seems to be a very intresting crypto that i want to be involved with. so far from what i gather in order to harvest it requires 10,000 xem to be vested in your wallet. it seems like the system vests 10% of your wallet every xxx mins (im not sure exactly how long). This page as well as http://wiki.nem.io/index.php/Main_Page seem to have the most up to date info as well as some tutorials on bootstrapping the Database to get started quicker. im currently at about 8,300 XEM, As soon as I get my 0.01 BTC payout from nicehash ill buy some more XEM and soon ill be able to start harvesting. once i do ill send you what ever i have extra.

Correct. And vesting happens once every 24 hours at the same time each day.

Awesome thanks for the clarification. Delegated Harvesting is another thing that I am sketchy on. I see how to set it up on https://blog.nem.io/how-to-use-delegated-harvesting/ , however does this mean I need another computer/Raspberry Pi running with the wallet? or can i just choose any node from https://supernodes.nem.io/ ? Thank you for your assistance

you can harvest on your Pi, or if you want you can ask a supernode with an open slot.

I would suggest running on your Pi that way it is under your control. Follow this tutorial to autoboot your node on your Pi so when you start NIS, it is harvesting automatically https://blog.nem.io/nis-auto-start-and-auto-harvest/
