Importing Backup file problem

Hi there!

I am experiencing troubles restoring my NEM account in my MAc.

Few days ago my HD crashed, I was lucky to save all NEM files, so I reinstalled it from my crased HD into a new HD.

When I launch the client, says that " an existing installation has ben detected in /Applications/nemwallet. Installer will reuse the directory"

An installing process takes place, and I launch the NEM client.

The problem is that the client does not recognise/remember that I was a NEMber or my old wallet, so it asks me to create a new wallet.

Luckly, I did a backup in a USB, so I create a new wallet and I proceed with the adding existing account. But now, when I open the zip file appears an" .adb" file and a “.wit” file.
Where is supposed to be my private key?
Into the “.adb” file ther’s a long code looking like: "ã0•LDf …◊ûËRO"
but nothing lookin like e private key.

Anybody could help me recover my old account, or private key?

Thanks

The zip file contains the wallet and the address book. Unzip it into the /home/nem/ncc folder. Upon starting the client, it should recognize your wallet.

Hi Bloody Rookie!
Thanks for your help.
I unziped my old backup into the ncc folder, and I started the client again, but it didn’t work. Still appears my new wallet but not the old one containing NEMs.
What should I try at this point?

Did you really unzip into the /home/nem/ncc folder? Not the NCC install folder, just to be sure. Did you restart NCC?

Hi Bloody Rookie!

Sorry for my ignorance, but where is exactly located /home/nem/ncc folder in a Mac.

What I did is:
-In Applications I double clicked on “Nem” folder to open it, and I found several folders inside such as: cosole, “ncc”, “nis”, “libs”, “mon”,…etc
-I double clicked on “ncc” and I found : a folder named “web”, and several files such as: “config.properties”, “nem-client-api-0.6,75-BETA.jar”, …
-So, I pasted into this “ncc” folder my unziped backup: “.adb”, “.wit”.
-I went back to the main folder to double click on the wallet icon to run the app in my browser (firefox), but after login into wallet, and syncronizing NIS,and running NCC, my account is still empty.

I see that theres is an option inside my wallet called: “add an existing account” where I’m asked to introduce my private key. But, here, the proble is that my back up files seems to don’t match the required format (adb.looks like: ã0•LDf—¬‰ S˘f…)
So, I feel really freaked!

on a mac it should be ~/nem/ncc/ folder according to Jaguar0625 (who has a mac).

Due to the fact that my old HD could not boot up, and because I copied all my files (including NEM) to a new HD which is running now my mac, it seems that Spotlight is not indexing my files, so I don’t know how to reach the -/nem/ncc folder that you point.
Any idea, who to acces the folder?

go to your home folder (The one with your username). Then open the nem folder, and then open your ncc folder. Put your ‘.adb’ and ‘.wlt’ files in the ncc folder.

Finally it worked, the wallet shows my old account with some NEMs

Thanks to BloodyRookie!
