If you have over 10,000XEM, you can harvest. The only reason you would leave your wallet on is to harvest. However I suggest you use delegated harvesting instead.
If you want to harvest, I would suggest you use delegated harvesting.

Yes, might as well leave it off while you are not using it, if you are not harvesting.
