Mac Users With Working/Unworking clients Please Read

I am trying to get a scope of a problem I have noticed with getting the Mac Client to work

Here is what seems to be going on

OSX 10.10 and up - No problems

OSX 10.9 and below installation goes fine but NIS and NCC never Boot so there are no logs

I have Tracked the problem to Java 6 that comes installed on all mac's 10.9 and below it seems that even though java 8 is installed NIS and NCC try to boot using java 6 and a simple uninstall doesn't seem to do the trick

I will be doing some clean system tests tomorrow (i have a few macs lying around) but i want to see how it is working with others in the community to see if it is an isolated problem

Please post you OSX version and java versions

to find this information:

For OSX version click the apple logo at the top left of your screen and click about this mac it will say OSX Version 10.x

For java goto the apple logo and click system preferences then click JAVA at the bottom from the new window that opens click the third tab labeled "java" then click view.  this shows you installed versions, under the platform tab you will see a number: 1.6 is java 6,  1.7 is java 7, 1.8 is java 8.  please post all java versions installed

once i track down the problem i will write an inclusive tutorial on how to get it working

Thanks

Ther can be more than one versions of JAVA installed on a machine but there may only be one that is set as primary. From the Mac OS system preferences, there is a configuration for JAVA and if I am not mistaken you can set which one you would like to use here.

tried that but even when 8 is the only one installed i get the "you need java to run this" "click here to download" window and it takes you to the JSE 8 page

this is my problem now _

NIS needs to be booted. Please open your wallet and boot a local node via the popup dialog or configure the auto-boot setting.

top left of shield icon remains grey & I get error messages 306 or 500 when trying to boot a local node

Java version is fine & the strange thing is I had the whole thing working properly yesterday, synchronized, harvesting and everything.  Was very nice to see the whole shield go green… didn't last for long though…

is the web ui opening?

Hi bonz, have you tried the stand alone? http://blog.nem.io/mac-installation-guide-standalone/  (I recently updated the guide a little)

OSX 10.10.2
Java 1.8

Hi, I couldn't get the client working. I kept getting "To view this web content, you need to install the Java Runtime Environment". Which was already installed".

I found this thread [url=https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6659727]https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6659727 which stopped that happening with this fix from apple [url=https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1572?locale=en_US]https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1572?locale=en_US

I then couldn't get the NIS or NCC to run. nem shield icon remained grey and java gave info message: NIS is stopped, NCC is stopped.

Standalone version installed straight away without any issues.

The client now also seems to work. Shield comes on green and opens in browser automatically.

Get the whole JDK (Not the JRE) then it works on Mac
