Moving Towards Launch

With only a matter of weeks remaining before launch, now is a good time to discuss some of the work needed to distribute NEM to all stakeholders.

Many people have expressed confusing at our redemption process and would like some validation that they didn't screw up. Doing a simple verification round might be a good idea to make sure everyone's addresses work and they will be able to access their NEM after launch. Is this something that everyone would like?

I think it would make people feel better if they knew their coins will be where they wanted them to be

only verification I can think of are these 2 simple steps:

Step1:

https://chain.nem.ninja/stakes/registered
If you're a btt stakeholder check if your username is there.
If you're a NXT AE stakeholder check if your NXT-Address is there (and that the shown NEM-Address starts with N and is the correct one you created).
Please use CTRL+F to search. Many people pm me saying they can't find their names allthough they are listed.

Step2:

Use NCC to verify your privkey, pubkey and address. It's in the same menu where you created them.

If you sucessfully complete these 2 steps you can be 100% sure you'll get your NEM at launch.

Do you mean resetting current blockchain and start testing with real addresses?

No he doesn't mean that. Wondering if we could do that though....hmm.

We should not have too many steps.

To allay all fears just enter your address and public key and the system will respond if that is ok with the expected amount. Make it simple that my grandmother (if she is alive today) will know what to key in and see for herself that she is going to get x NS.

Let's learn from mistakes and let it be known that not many people know how to read instructions properly.

If their privkey is messed up they would get through that verification and still be screwed at launch.

We could have people input the priv key into their browser and have the address generated by javascript and checked with their token on the site.

This could also be done from within NCC.

Do you really want to spend more coding time on this ?
If those people managed to follow the instruction for redemption they have to be able to use freaking CTRL+F on a webpage and a function that they have already used in NCC don't you think ?
I'm all for making things as easy as possible but at a certain point it becomes peoples responsibility to not be completely oblivious.

No, no more time should be wasted on this. Enough time has been provided to verify everything timely and correctly.

Don't make people enter their private key somewhere in the browser if not absolutely neccessary.

I think the best solution is an optional validation for people who have time and motivation to do it. The people who don't want to read texts longer than 2 lines / follow instructions, can go the risky way. Their decision...

I personally would want
1) an offline tool to validate my private key matches the adress which I can run on an offline computer.
2) a possibility to validate my username and adress in the registered list.

1) works in NCC (pull the plug after you logged in if you have to be offline but if you don't trust NCC then you're gonna have a problem anyway :))
2) https://chain.nem.ninja/stakes/registered

@patmast3r:
Well yes, I could do it with NCC but a very small tool which runs portable would be nice. But you are right, it can be done with NCC on an offline computer.
The link doesnt show the complete adress though, so it cant be validated 100 %.

I suggested this because some people were saying that want more confirmation. It would be good to help people verify that their stake is secure

After launch, there is no getting it back.

I get that but here's what I think....
The people that want to put in the time and verify are able to do it now and are also able to follow those instructions. We're not requiring to do brain surgery here.
Making it simpler will not reach more people imho. Many people just don't give a damn. They're just gonna come and cry after launch no matter how easy a verification would be.

Therefore I think it's a waste of time.

It's also not like they couldn't ask for help either. If they care, they'll ask.

I agree with patmast3r here… There is only so much we can do and only so much time to spare… That time is fast running out and we have provided a way to verify details…

I checked my details 3 Times in under 5 mins and duplicated the info twice and checked the duplicates… All in under 15 mins… If people care they will take the time. Everything they need to do this has been there and accessible for a long time. I don't think anymore time should ve spent on trying to prevent user mistakes…

Like pat said, no matter how easy we make it people will mess up. There's nothing we can do about it.

Agree with pat and kod. Note they have provided a way of verification. We should resist complicating things further. If additional help is needed for someone in particular, please ask and it shall be provided.

I hope people have been careful ^ ^

The NEW ECONOMY is based on personal responsibility, which goes hand-in-hand with equality of opportunity.

Hm, yes. Patmast3r is right…
