I am an original stake holder but I decided to let it sit for awhile instead of selling or using it right away. My name is XDM and I was on the stake holder list. When I tried to open my account and add my private key to the wallet it shows my balance at 0. Also when I check my old account number on the block chain I don’t see any coins in it. The account is
ND2PJK-TKBDQJ-DN72PZ-W3XTLZ-DUS2ZI-V7CCXZ-2ZDU. What have I done wrong and is there anyway to get my coins. This would be a huge blow for me if I am not able to retrieve them.

Seems you are not in the nemesis block. That means you probably got filtered out in the sock puppet cleaning process.
Since the launch of nem was more than a year ago, this is not going to change.

Did you have private key or wlt file backuped?
