Are there any plans to support testnet on mobile wallets? Or is there a way, I can use test accounts addresses using mobile? Reason i ask, i’m doing some walk throughs and using testnet examples to illustrate the capabilities of NEM.
When i use the current mobile wallet, anytime i try to import a test wallet it says “Wrong QR code”. I also can not create a test wallet on the mobile app
I’m already in the beta, but i thought that was a user made one. The Nem Wallet that’s on IOS is official, with multisig. What is the difference? I’d prefer to use official software to minimize visibility ‘risk’.
NEM Pay beta is already only testnet and made by Atraura which is heavily developing for NEM.
NEM Mobile wallet doesn’t have option for testnet, so if you would like to use it, only NEM Pay is available… So I don’t see too much problem in current situation, you have offcial software for mainnet and unofficial for testnet
That makes sense. My only issue is to keep things consistent by using official software vs. 3rd party beta software, it’s a little more manageable. It’s definitely an alternative but users i’m walking through will have to sign up for the forum, sign up for nem pay, download crashlytics, wait for dev to approve (i’m still waiting for UUID approval), and wait.
The official wallet, go to IOS, download open and add wallet, is a much simpler flow. Since you’ve watched my video, I can tell you that the audience i’m talking to 40%+ have little interest in crypto. The other half is curious, but aren’t as technically savvy and a small percentage doesn’t need my videos to do any of it. So to simplify, reducing the steps to ones they are already familiar with is the primary goal of the series I created. In doing so, I get to see where ‘normal’ users have problems with simplified steps. My audience is predominantly conservative because its a metals channel.
So its not a problem for us, but it is a problem for grandma’s or non-technical people unfamiliar and having to go through several steps outside is very scary for people. I would’ve honestly used your tutorial, but going to all those sites is difficult or too tedious for the avg. user IMO. It is a good tutorial and I intend to reference them at some point, but for now i just want to make it super simple so we can try use cases on the test network. One of my plans is to hold a contest with youtubers, i put up a bounty and let the community try to win by using the nem test network and transferring mosaics between one another as points. The person with the most transactions and with video proof wins a small prize. I’m still working that out, but its the gist of the training series now vs. explaining everything. Basically gamifying the learning curve a bit.
You are totally right. But NEM isn’t only cryptocurrency, it’s mijin and companies behind it, like LuxTag, Atraura, people that works on catapult, trezor, etc… Those guys are pushing new code everyday and adding testnet to mobile isn’t their highest priority. At the end of the day you can do everything by having NanoWallet. You can’t even transfer mosaic in mobile wallet. We are in the early years of crypto and having sophisticated core and tools for developers is essential to fast grow of this platform
So let those devs work on the highest priority or learn how to develop app, MobileWallet code is completely open and you can check it on gihub!
I think that execution is earlier than discussion.
Please officially explain the circumstances and get a test net version. I think that it will be settled.
Yes, it was just a question, if it is on the roadmap. Otherwise, i will just use the nanowallet. I wanted to understand what resources and limitations there are with mobile. I had a user download the mobile vs. the nanowallet, which is the type of thing i wanted to see. I did a video on the wallet, an engaged user download the mobile because that’s what he carries. So hmm, i thought i’d ask the devs. I’m okay with just the nanowallet.
Overall, it will take time and steady exposure to get people comfortable at least for my channel to start downloading things and following along so there’s no rush. This is just my contribution to support NEM and begin training users on using crypto currency with an emphasis on NEM because it offers a lot out of the box and a light wallet. I try to focus more on the tech… Here’s a playlist of my vids to give you an idea. I was trying to do drawings at first, but figured I’d just show it with video because voice over is hard to time. Then of course my speech sucks because i’m used to editing and not doing single takes. So still learning and trying to make a contribution/awareness.
