NIS Not available error message

Hi,

Trying to check my wallet and I’m get a ‘NIS not available’ error message at the top of the browser screen. I have Java 8 downloaded and also a new client downloaded.

This is an issue as I’m a regular user (not a dev but fairly tech saavy) and cannot find anywhere on the NEM website how to fix this issue. Accessing your wallet should be the easiest thing to do.

Thanks for the help.

hi msunem,

so i guess you are running NIS yourself locally and are not using a remote NIS.
What does the monitor tray icon look like? It should be all green, maybe yours is showing grey or orange parts?

Hi BloodyRookie.

To be honest, I’m not sure if I’m running it locally or not? I don’t know the difference. The steps I’ve took.

  1. Download Java 8.
  2. Use the windows installer from NEM.io
  3. Run application.
  4. The icon is 2 green and 1 orange section.
  5. Go to website and it says NIS is not available.

Thanks for the help.

I am pretty new to the wallet as well - when you right click on the icon what does the status say? My icon is three solid green sections and says NEM is running and synchronized. I am wondering if the message in there can assist?

its 2 green and 1 orange. I think its an issue with my avast software. But I’ve turned off the firewall but no luck.

Did you google how to do open ports for applications?
NIS need port 7890 and lightwallet needs port 7778.

Here is for example a description for AV port opening:

Not sure Avast is the issue. I’ve disabled avast and tried to restart NIS/NCC. Still no luck

hmmm…what do the NIS logs say?

Is there something specifically I should be looking for? The log files are pretty long. Want me to paste them all in here?

Well if NIS is not available i guess it exiting after starting it. In that case the logs should be quite small. Best would be if you could upload the logs to a file hoster and paste the link here.
