Start NIS, boot it and open port 7890 in your router for the machine where NIS is running.

You can always access it to do transactions or harvest. You support the network

- open port 7890 in your router
- Download the software: http://bob.nem.ninja/installer/
- Start NIS
- Start NCC
- Open browser on page: http://127.0.0.1:8989/ncc/web/index.html
- Create a wallet and boot NIS, wait till it is synchronized.
- You can now close NCC if you like.

I meant, do you run a node from a second nem platform or just the usual non-noding version with a tweak to the port?

if you run Nis anywhere, with ports open and it is booted, then that is a node.. doesnt matter where you run it and the software is identical. no tweaks are required but when running Nis on a server, tweaking the config files just makes your life so much easier.
