The official website already looks pretty good: www.nem.io
But we still have to improve it a bit. We discussed that on telegram, but it is hard to keep up with more complex topics in the group chat so I decided to move this here.
For example I think we don't need the menu entry "DEVELOPER". Content of that entry should just go to "Resources" in the footer.
I also think we should not have the newsletter archive on the website, because a lot of informaton was updated or changed, so there is a lot of stuff which isnt worth the time reading it. And it looks bad to have so many outdated information on the official website.
-> It would be better to have a "Important facts" section, with all the central facts like total amount of XEM, system requirements etc.
I think that old news letters shouldn't be a major focus of the website. They have lots of old information, some of it a little embarrassing. If there is a like a small link at the bottom or something, I guess that is okay.
I'd rather see the link that host the newsletter part have lots of information kind of like the wikipage. A history, important facts, how it works, a little about devs and so on; a kind of this is what NEM is and this is how we got here type of thing. Basically an advert of our best material.
Maybe the mind map would be a good starting point. https://forum.ournem.com/promotion-activism/mind-map-of-the-most-important-nem-features/
I summerized all the information from the newsletters and filtered it to the relevant points:
[li]at launch there were XY stakeholders with YZ stakes[/li]
[li]final redemption deadline for Nxt AE NEMstake holders was on February 26th 2015[/li]
[li](first beta client (0.5.4) with multisignature implementation and new experimental anti-spam feature on February 1st 2015)[/li]
[li]NEM currency code will be: "XEM" (like USD, EUR, CNY, JPY, XBT, …)[/li]
[li]total amount of XEM in circulation: 8,999,999,999 XEM[/li]
[li]1 NEM stake = 1/4000th of total amount = 2,249,999.99975 XEM[/li]
[li]smallest denomination is 1 microXEM (
perhaps a list of features that will be ready by launch and then keep it updated as new features come out?

Yeah, something like the NXT tech-tree right ? That would be cool. The question is always how far into the future you go. I think NXT just puts everything in there no matter what the timeline is. I'm not sure that's smart as people could be dissapointed when half the stuff on the tech-tree isn't even being developed at the time. On the other hand it gives some pointers that NEM is a long-term project and our ambitions are to be the best and brightest.
What we should avoid is using buzzwords just because. We should only put on there what is realistic and what we can clearly define and possibly even given an ETA on if someone asks. This is something that always bothered me about NXT. They've been claiming TF from the start but how far it really is in development noone seems to know for sure.

I too have a like/hate relationship with the NXT tree. In some ways it is good because it says what it has, but in other ways it is confusing because who knows where they are in development or when it will happen. I watched a youtube video about NXT the other day from a year ago. They were saying TF and variable fees would come soon. hahaha.
To me, I guess the best way to do our tree would be features at launch, features at V1, and then possible other features.
Another point about NEM.io is that it would be really nice if the bob.ninja website was ported over to the nem.io brand. Like for instance to install the client instead of going to http://bob.nem.ninja/installer/ a person would go to http://nem.io/installer/. By doing this I feel like it would make people getting downloads feel safer, be able to remember the address better, and also NEM wouldn't be so fractured and confusing like NXT.
Yes, we shouldnt start a list with buzzwords. Maybe we shouldnt even write the planned features in the same list. We could have another "planned features list", because that is a totally different thing and only few people really care what COULD be possible at some time, the people want to know what NEM can do NOW.
Regarding client download: I think we should just have direct links on the nem.io website. Installer (pick OS)/ Portable (all OS). Done.
I mentioned this in the BTC thread, but it would be nice to have a list of the social discussions visible on the main site so people can get involved.
bitcointalk thread, reddit, this forum, telegram, etc …
This is no where on the main site?

at the very bottom of the page there are small links for facebook, twitter, and github
there is also a part of the website that shows the last three official tweets.
it isn't exactly what you mentioned, but we are getting there. the website is being built
Thanks for the quick reply, not criticizing just offering suggestions.
Just worry when the coin officially launches there will be very little buzz.
Reddit is what really boosted dogecoin, but there is little to no activity for NEM on reddit?
for the features list, perhaps an interactive time line would be cool?
i mean one section that is lit up green in some way with icons and when you click/hover the icon, and explanation of what it is, how it works and how it can benefit the user could be displayed? then for the ones in current development the line could glow orange and when icon is click/hovered it also says what it is, how it works how it can benefit the user but this time include an estimate time of arrival? then move further on to a grey line about features that are planned, but not in development, and state what they do bla bla bla and just say this feature is not currently in development so an ETA cannot be given. However, keep an eye out for if it turns orange… on the front page of the site, only display the green and orange section whilst leaving the grey section off the side of the page requiring users to click an arrow to bring over the grey section… the arrow could be marked "see future features currently not in development" so that it is clear that these items will take time?
for the orange items, it would be great if it could be said who is working on them. that way if anyone has particular questions about a given feature, they know who to go ask and perhaps offer help to?

yes.. this really should be done.. the site you go to get the software now really doesnt look good from a joe paranoid soaps perspective.. is this being worked on by any chance?
Yes, a download section is badly needed on the official website. I wonder why this isn't done yet.
Kody, I like your idea of that interactive time line a lot…
I think we should add coingateway to the website. Imho that's almost cooler than all the exchanges and most importantly it's ready to be used RIGHT NAOW
We're also starting to need a page for "where to spend XEM".
I know psybit accepts XEM for his PR services.
2 others have claimed to add it to their services.
Maybe we could have a form that merchants can fill out to "register" their service as accepting NEM and upon review those could be added to the page.
I think we need to lay some emphasis on the movement aspect of NEM on the website.
Not in the hippy bs way though but in the way of actual contributions.
I think there should be a link to the github organization https://github.com/neweconomymovement and a call for contributors. Not only will it make it easier for contributors to get started but it might also motivate some more people if they see that stuff is being actively developed.
The website needs some search engine optimization.
Searching for nem, the old website appears at the bottom of the first page and the new website at the bottom of the second page of results.
Both have the title "Nem Logo". perhaps something more descriptive would be better.
Right. The title is fixed, but its still not the 1st search result. Any idea how to improve this?
Ok, thanks!
