when i start up ncc, even though i have connect to remote nis saved, it still starts up local nis(unsuccessfully/successfully?) but its like there is a conflict… when i right click the nem monitor, the top two options both say "connecting to nis…" but in ncc it says its synced… how ever when i try to make a transaction it states "An error occurred that the development team did not have foreseen. Apologies […] NEM NIS/NCC community"
changed remote server to localhost again, rebooted and now nis seems to work like normal again… thing is though when i reinstalled nem i imported a nemisis account that has already done transactions and now when i try to remote harvest it tells me an account needs to have made a transaction before harvesting while also showing past transactions of that exact account… strange… 
perhaps this is all cos im still on 0.4.9?
started up ncc and nis on "localhost" connected fine synced and all that… when i right clicked nem monitor it says connected to nis and stop nis as it should… then i went to settings and entered the IP of the server where im running nis, saved, and then right clicked nem monitor… top two options = "connecting to nis…" but still have green bar at the top… and now its stuck like that and i cant stop nis…

uninstalled nem… again… and deleted everything nem related again… downloaded for the millionth time and now everything works as it should again… must have been something my end…
now im connected to remote nis and trying to start remote harvesting but its saying… "The account is unknown. An account needs to be part of at least one transaction (sender or recipient) to be known to the network."
That local NIS is booting eventhough a remote one is configured is merely and oversight. I think that'll change soon.
I had the same setup but didn't encounter any conflicts.
I configured my NCC to connect to alice2.nem.ninja. I don't get any error when running the GUI and NEM monitor does not display any strange status messages nor has strange menu items like "connecting to…" that you reported.
There is one bug when you try to activate remote harvesting - permanent stay Activating remote harvesting… and I cant deactivate him.I use web version of client.

I fix due by to 24 hours so probably hi deactivate himself so why is this so long if I like to deactivate it before - for me when it is connect to remote server must be possible to disconnect from him.

filchef as explained on irc chat: the term "remote" here has nothing to do with a remote NIS. It's a remote (that means another) account that gets activated and will harvest for the account.
