Sockpuppet complaints

Pat,

I think your method was very sound.  I was pretty much sure that partially one of the reasons we had to register a token was that you were going to see if anybody was stupid enough to register all of their sock puppet tokens from 1 IP. Apparently so.

I had no idea that you could fingerprint a browser.  That as sweet bonus when I read this.

I am very happy that you all have tried to weed out these sock puppets.

Another good nod to the NEM devs.

Holy sh**, there will be a lot of FUD now  ;D but well done. No socket puppets anymore, why socket puppets doesn't claim there stakes before on NXT AE to be safe? Strange  :P

Strike just when the thief thinks there is no danger.

I really think when it comes to BTT, fud is the aim of the game for a small group of people who are probably big holders of BTC and other currencies. It wouldn't surprise me one bit if they make a cooperative effort to FUD/buy up all shares and to profit for their own gains. I genuinely don't think the crypto market is really THAT big for this not to be the case.

Nonetheless, it's pretty sweet you guys took measures such as this. I know i certainly appreciate it.

I think people need to be ushered to NEMforums now in order to break free from the nonesense that goes on there.

Nice. Thank you for explaining this in detail!

No socket puppets anymore

Well, at least no dumb sock puppets any more…

Overall, the reaction has been fairly positive, which is great. Most stakeholders were not socks.

Those who did get caught: I hope you can be happy with the stakes we let you keep and work to make NEM a better success, so that the stakes you have will be worth more.

The dumping sockmasters already transfered everything to nxt ae.
What was left were the holders.

sad to see my stake and the one for my loved one has been taken away. I have signed up for NEM on the first thread when a coworker of mine mentioned NEM to me.
Now we all registered from the same notebook (only one with NEM client)after work.

we are not sockpuppets or dumpers. we even plan to make a german nem portal www.nemster.de (under construction) and were planning to offer bounties for people to help us install blockexplorer etc.

Can you tell us how many sock stake you had?

If it had been only you and your coworker it had been fine. But that was not the case now was it. We didn't lock em all so if you try all your socks you'll find that you can still redeem at least 2 of them.

Do you have any proof that you are all unique people who will contribute to NEM?

@uludag Now, if that is the case, you actually had more than two. You have not been honest then. You deserve to be banished if that is the case. A website like www.nemster.de won't help either as that will mean that it is not a site to be trusted.

@uludag: Why do you write "

I am very happy in the nem community, and change all my NXT(money) by NEM(nxt ae). All persons who have stakes in btt, will have to settle for the stakes received. For me, the only ones acceptable to have more stakes, are the creators of nem. Without them, there is no chance to fulfill the dream: buy a home, a better home, have your business, …

I hope someday, or in another life, seeing drop this Babylonian (roman) Empire, and watch free the "library of alexandria", the mystery of the: mortal / immortal, fire / water, sun / moon.

For my part, I'll support to nem with my node 24/7 365.

Thanks team nem!!

How many stakes are being confiscated?

If we are looking at an excessive amount of unclaimed + confiscated stakes across the board I'm starting to think distributing some to legit stake holders is the only thing to do.. Seriously..

Unclaimed and returned stakes (from socks) should both be treated separately.

Have you guys decided how to treat returned stakes? If not I think a decision needs to be made as fast as possible before this explodes with accusations of money grabbing..

It needs to be decided, but I think treating them the same as the previous socks makes the most sense and is the most justifiable. No need to treat these socks as being different.

But the last lot went to people on the waiting list afair.. That's not possible now.. Can you give a number on the amount that have been confiscated? That number is of huge importance.

Actually, you're the only person making a big deal of this right now :)

I'm also curious to know how much stakes were confiscated, and more importantly what will happen with these stakes.
Since there is a lot of money on the line with the launch of Nem, transparency and dialogue with the investors is important.

We have no exact numbers yet as potential sockpuppets can come and explain what happend. If their explanation is reasonable and most importantly believeable we might unlock some of those stakes again.

What will happen with those isn't decided either.

We have been nothing but transparent the whole time so that is nothing anyone needs to worry about.

I am a little sympathetic to somebody who bought a NEM address for a website.  I think we need people like that.  That said, I realize the website was probably a play to gain sympathy and I am not sure how many socks were registered.

I am sure you all are better researchers than me.  It looks like the website was registered back in May, but basically left dormant until yesterday when all the content was loaded.  I can't be sure, but that is how it looks from [url=http://whois.domaintools.com/nemster.de]http://whois.domaintools.com/nemster.de

Also https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=232274;sa=showPosts screams of sockpuppet.

It was created just to register for NEM.  Then the next post is to say they were ripped off by Gox for dust.  It just doesn't seem right to me.  Somebody who left dust in Gox, would have been capable of depositing, trading, and then withdrawing, yet there is no other post history?
