Hi, there. I just downloaded “The light wallet”. and have managed to send XEM from poloniex. However I realised the wallet is called “(experimental) New Lightwallet”… anyone knows what is this mean?? Is this wallet belong to me? I am worried, since I send decent amount of XEM…
Lightwallet should be secure.
Just make sure you get a copy of your private key + password offline and you will allways be fine.
Oh okay thanks. “experimental” means still beta version??
were you importing some private key that you have, or were you creating “brain” wallet?
In first case make sure to have private key backup as @Brainofmasses suggest
In second one - do not forget your password, as it’d be gone forever
experimental means - care should be taken, not to lose your keys.
Upcoming nanowallet will offer some more user-friendly wallet expor features.
Thanks gimer. I created brain wallet. it means I do not need private key?
I still think brain wallets are insecure. There shouldn’t even be an option to make one IMO.
Yes, just remember your brainwallet passphrase.
Keep in mind we were restrain for a long time, before adding them (mind, that NCC did not have brain wallet).
Saying brain wallet is insecure is exaggeration. It’s ok as long as you have sensible password. The only question is what does sensible mean.
There are some weird techniques: like taking every first letter of some sentence, or using sentences, but you might want to look at this paper: Crack Me I’m Famous: cracking weak passphrases using publicly-available sources
@Sally nope, the key deriviation (from the provided password) will stay the same in both lightwallet and nano (so if you remember the password you’re fine, I hope it’s not Sally12345 ;)).
Nano will also have (and use as default ones) HD wallet seed based keys, based on BIP32.
Here is another dumb question. Last night I made brain wallet, and have wallet name and Password. But I do not know how to access to my wallet. I tried to follow tutorial it is not explained enough for me…
