Trouble downloading client + Safety tips for using Java

Hello people,

My name is Will, I'm from Sydney, Australia.

I'm trying to download the NEM wallet on my Mac w/ the new Yosemite update. Everything goes fine until i try to open the application up. I get a message from Java saying "Info, NIS is stopped, NCC is stopped". I have attached an image of the notification.

Also any tips for using Java? I've read lots of bad things about malware etc. Last thing I want in a virus keylogging my Mac. Any tips on how to safely uses Java?

Look forward to chatting with you.

Will

I suggest you read the mac related tutorials here http://blog.nem.io/nem-tutorial-list/ .
OS X doesn't like the installed client very much so you might wanna try the standlaone (also in the tutorials).

Java 8 as such is not the problem. Browser plugins (Java plugin) can be more dangerouse. So if you are not so experienced, just dont install any Java Plugins for your browser and you are fine. Of course you should never download and run any files which you don't know. This is a general thing and has nothing to do with Java.

I had the same Java problem "Info, NIS is stopped, NCC is stopped" my on iMac. (yosemite)

1.  To correct it I first uninstalled Java 8 completely (search 'this mac' for javaappletplugin.plugin file and delete it. Empty trash.)
I then restarted my computer for good measure.

2.  After that I installed Java Developers Kit (JDK-8) which is found here: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk8-downloads-2133151.html

I can't remember where I found this tip (probably in this forum somewhere) but after a few hours of fiddling around I tried the Developers version of Java and it allowed the NIS and NCC to run
