Unable to upgrade old NCC client, could use some advice

Hi all, I am having some trouble updating my NCC client to the nano wallet.
The instructions posted here: https://blog.nem.io/ncc-to-nanowallet-export/ say to click the arrow and select export to light wallet. Well I’m unable to do that, because there is no option for that. The only export option is just export wallet, shown here.

So how should I proceed here? I don’t want to screw anything up, I’ve written down my private key and address, and have them stored in different places, the wallet file is backed up to several different mediums as well.
should I just install nano wallet and try to import using the private key and wallet file? don’t use the wallet file at all? I’m at a loss… any advice would be appreciated.

Go ahead and export the wallet, and follow the blog instructions. I think the blog is referring to a slightly older NCC version. The rest of the process should be the same.

problem is, just exporting the wallet like the pic i posted shows only exports the .wlt and adb file.
the instructions say I need the json file but without the export to lightwallet, how am I supposed to get that json file?

You need to do the ‘export wallet’ option. Are you using the latest version of NIS?

Hi there

Apologies for having to revive this thread!

Due to Rip-Van-WInkle nature I need to do exactly the same thing specified here and I am stuck with the same problem, old version of NCC (0.6.73_BETA), which does not give the “export to lightwallet” option.

Can I just go ahead with the output of the old “export wallet” option that I have that produces the .adb and .wlt files, or do I need to upgrade my NCC first to version 0.6.96 to get the json file first? Not clear from this thread what the correct solution is.

If I need to upgrade my NCC first it would be great to get a guide as to how best to do this as well, so I don’t screw up!

Excuse my retro request - trust someone can help?

Thanks
Andy

@AndyDay
First of all I would create backup your wlt and adb file just to be safe.

I can test scenerio with upgrade to latest ncc when I will be at home in couple hours if you like.
This is latest NIS version with ncc: http://bob.nem.ninja/last-ncc/

Great, I have the backup, thanks for offering to do a test, that would be very helpful to hear about.

Also thanks for the link - but I am very unsure as to how to do the upgrade from these files, really don’t know where to start, would need a basic guide if there is one available somewhere?

Thanks again for your help and looking forward to hearing how your test goes.
Andy

Nem files should be stored in user home directory.
nem/ncc or sth like this (if old version works as old).

So IMO all you should do is run new version and your wallet should be there because it will use same directory.

But of course keep your backup in safe place before you do that.

So I simply replace the existing files in my NCC-wallet directory?

That is do I just copy the new files from the 0.6.91 rar/zip over the old 0.6.73 ones in my current NCC-wallet directory?
Is there anything I need to be aware of in this process, or is it as simple as that?

I will of course keep a backup…

Apologies again for ludite nature but really need to make sure I am doing the right thing!

Thanks again
Andy

I don’t think you need replace. Just unzip latest ncc (in other directory) and run. Should work if file format didn’t changed. And wallet should be visible in it.

But as I told can test it later today.

I will test if I will find old NCC
But in my opinion unzipping file and check if it works should be safe. You don’t need overwrite nothing.
