UPDATED - managed with help to get up & running on Mac

Thanks Parana!

Yes my computer is 192.168.1.3, I should have said.  So fortunately won't need to do that IP stuff!

The slightly bizarre and circular problem I'm having is that you apparently need Java 8 for the thing to run, so I've upgraded - but in Java 8 the Medium security setting is gone (minimum is High), and even with http://bob.nem.ninja and the webstart site etc as trusted sites, the security won't let them run…

hmmm will erase everything AGAIN & try again later

I had this problem too on my windows 8.1 machine with Java 8_25.

I just restarted the client again and problem solved. That was just it.

Dont forget: You can find the Nem's folder and run manually the Nis server ( i dont know if it is the .bat file or the .sh one for mac).

This is an option. On linux machines, there is the need to make this manually.

good luck

:)

Ok back to basics then - from bob.nem.ninja am I downloading

nem-core__V0.4.30-BETA.jar

or nis-ncc-0.4.30.tgz

or both?

Makoto says that the standalone runs on his MAC notebook, so there must be some way to get it to run. Since Apple doesn't like webstart I think you should use the standalone version.

I downloaded the stand alone but when I clicked on the Jar, it told me there was an error and to check the console.

I have the latest version of Mac OS of a clean install and a fresh install of Java 8.

The first problem I had is that when I clicked on the Jar file, it wouldn't let me open it because of the security settings.

But if I clicked control and clicked on the icon, then I could click "open" and it would try to start up, spudder, and give me the error message to check console.

I also don't really know a lot about Macs.  I actually like it more than Windows, but my work requires Windows so I am on Windows 95% of the time.

Can you run the:

1st: nix.runNis.sh?
2nd: nix.runNcc.sh?

Or the( I think its for windows):

1st: nix.runNis.bat?
2nd: nix.runNcc.bat?

I am struck with the same problem. exactly the same error. Using MacBook Air. Java 8 installed. Tried to follow the instructions provided by

I got it going!!!

It is actually pretty easy once you know how to do it, but like anything if you don't know, it is really hard.  hahaha

Step 1: You will need the developers kit of Java.  Go here and download the version for Mac.
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jdk8-downloads-2133151.html

Step 2: Download the stand alone version of NEM from here http://bob.nem.ninja (get the latest version)

Step 3: unpack the file to the desktop and if done correctly, you should see a folder called

"chmod +x" configures that the file is allowed to be executed.

On Debian I didn't have to do this. I am starting it by "sh nix.runNis.sh". I wonder if this will work on a Mac, too?

I have tried those commands and they work on Mac too.  My suspicion is now that I may not have to have the developers kit of Java.  I am thinking about deleting all Java and all NEM on my Mac and seeing if I can now get NEM running with those commands and standard Java.  If so, I will update the tutorial.  That won't be till later because I am in the PoI competition right now and I don't want to loose time by fiddling with my computer and deleting NEM.  hehehe

Ok
