What is the point of mosaics?

Hi,
Just wondering how mosaics can be used…
They have no value in themselves, so what can they be used for?

In short : mosaics == assets or tokens.

Right now mosaics are somewhat limited, as you can’t trade them easily. We have some very cool ideas and plans regarding mosaics, but due to catapult, they will be postponed.

When I can do my custom mosaics == assets in nem network and what it will require, need I have XEM to register it or how it working?

I’m not sure if I understand your quesion.

  1. You need to have a namespace (namespaces are quite costly and need to be renewed every year).
  2. You need to create a mosaic (every new mosaic requires a fee)
  3. Transfering mosaic requires xem (formula can be found in the docs)
