I am trying to buy xem on changelly and I need to enter a message to send the funds to my wallet. I don’t know what that is or where to find it. Am I supposed to create the message or is it generated somewhere in the wallet or with an app ?

P.S. I just noticed that my wallet address in the account info has dashes in the account number and when it’s listed in the receive xem section there are no dashes. does it matter when I am dealing with an exchange…eg. Changelly ?

If you are sending to your personal wallet (nanowallet or mobile wallet) message code is not required. Message code is required only when sending to exchange.
If you sending to personal wallet you can leave message field blank or if it’s required you can put whatever you want. For example message that allow you identify this transaction in future (‘changelly exchange btc to xem’).

I tried to send a test amount from Bittrex to my NEM wallet and it’s been pending for over 12 hours on the exchange and nothing in the wallet yet. Is that a normal wait time and do you have any suggestions on what to do next? I copy and pasted my wallet address and then sent the transaction without a message.

No it’s not normal. Transaction in NEM blockchain is processed in max 1-2 minute currently. Could you please copy-paste your public address?
