Where is all the devs?

Hi,

I want to know why NEM is not hiring anyone full-time to develop projects?

An outsourced development center developed few projects under NEM. I researched this, and here are a few.

1. NEM SYMBOL WALLET - Created by a development team located in India called Hatio. It looks like they did a pretty good job initially, but they stopped development almost a year ago. And it seems like the contract was never renewed.

  1. NEM BLOCK EXPLORER - Some team members from the USA created the F.E. It looks like he was removed back in 2019. NEM didn’t hire anyone for this position.

  2. NEM Trezor: This development was started by some shitty development team located in Vietnam. I don’t know where this is. Maybe someone can help me understand.

Why the hell are we not hiring people for development?
Cardano was our close competitor, and look where they are now. We will be out of CMC’s top 100 in a few months.

Other chains have moved a lot with Defi / NFT / and different ecosystems while we are still stuck with some old node reward programs and stupid token reward membership projects.

I think we all wonder the same thing

Of course, we need more good quality full-time developers but “we” are hiring. Join https://discord.gg/XYMcity (Remember to accept the rules when joining with handshake emoji) if you want to have better visibility regarding development.
Just small amendments (according my knowledge):

1. NEM SYMBOL WALLET - Created by a development team located in India called Hatio. It looks like they did a pretty good job initially, but they stopped development almost a year ago. And it seems like the contract was never renewed.

Symbol desktop wallet - was (and still is) developed by full-time developers and with help of Peersyst team.
Symbol mobile wallet - was started by Hatio but as far as I know the job was not pretty good because it required a rewrite of code by Peersyst.

NEM BLOCK EXPLORER - Some team members from the USA created the F.E. It looks like he was removed back in 2019. NEM didn’t hire anyone for this position.

Not sure which one block explorer you talking about. If https://explorer.nemtool.com/ then as far as I know it’s developed by a community developer from China (and still is). If http://explorer.symbolblockchain.io/ (afaik) it was started by the community and continued by full-time developer.

NEM Trezor: This development was started by some shitty development team located in Vietnam. I don’t know where this is. Maybe someone can help me understand.

You don’t know where Vietnam is?
NEM Trezor integration was developed by Saleem Rashid. I think he is very capable → Breaking the Ledger Security Model | Saleem Rashid

Ledger NEM and Symbol integration was done by FDS team. Not sure based on what you value wrong. Both integrations (NEM and Symbol) are done and work pretty well.

Currently, Symbol Ledger and Trezor are developed by the hired full-time developer.

Maybe you should check with Jeff. The cofounder. I’m pretty sure he once said some team in Vietnam is developing Trezor support. There is a lot of transparency issues with NEM and I guess money in hands of wrong people.

Trezor support (firmware) was started by FDS team (just small part) but after hiring full time dev was rewritten fom scratch by him (and finished):
https://github.com/symbol/trezor-firmware (branch symbol-integration)

Of course there is still need implement it on wallet side https://github.com/symbol/desktop-wallet/issues/1621.

But as you maybe know Trezor is not accepting new coins currently because lack of capacity (Developers guide:Contributing - Trezor Wiki)

This effectively means that our team will not be accepting any requests to add new cryptocurrencies.
