Stakes would be scaled appropriately for each number. That is, if 8 billion, then each stake will be 2 million coins.
Of course, about 3000 original/present nem members agreed to 4 B nem when joined in nem project.
I don't care personally whether nem is 4 B or 8 B.
But the love for 8 B nem is from the consideration of/for "future" nem member/comunity.
Even thou the hate for 4 and love for 8 is superstition, it effects on human psychology and behavior, and consequently some effects on nem's future/prosperity.
So if there is not so technical problem/difficulty in adjusting the number of total nem, 8 B is more desirable and practical choice than 4 B.
And 3,999… or 3,888… is not different from 4 B when we round off.

I disagree. A legitimate concern has been raised by a Nemster about the REAL perception of the number 4 by Asian people. The issuing amount is 4 billion so its that number Asians will have in there minds so taking a few away or adding a few on wont change anything.
I think we need to cater for the Asians if we want NEM to succeed.

The amount of NXT is 999,997,096. but people say/think NXT amount is 1 Billion.
Even NEM dev team said 4 billion NEM is determined by 4 times of 1 Billion NXT.

Looks like there is a double whammy here. The number in some language says it will die and the word confirms it in another language.

Did I get a "smite" because I supported 8 billion ? :o I don't think 8 billion release will raise any havoc and it is definitely cooler than 4 billion. There is only ONE chance of setting up the total release so it is better to consider all aspects of it carefully.
