AMENDED Mobi Project Summary

Hi all,

Just thought i’d post the summary directly in the forum instead of in a word doc. Please let us know what you think.

Mobi: The first fully facilitating commute carpooling app

Mobi is essentially a ridesharing app developed to help connect neighbours and colleagues for
their work or university commute. It has an inbuilt payment gateway, chat platform, and GPS
navigation for drivers and ease of use.

The ultimate goal for Mobi is to put more people in less cars by making it easy and convenient
to connect and share a ride in the same direction. Mobi is tailored to the commute market, with
features that will include:

  • Allowing both commuters to select who they travel with.
  • Providing an interest option so users can relate with the fellow Mobi commuter.
  • Weekly calendar to allow users to scheduled rides ahead.

Not only will this provide a new commute alternative, but will also:

  • Reduce daily commuting times if widely adopted.
  • Reduce carbon emissions.
  • Decrease congestion on roads.
  • Provide users the opportunity to network with more people and colleagues.

With this approach, we feel that Mobi will be competitive to other substitutes based on price,
comfort, and overarching external benefits.

The business model is based on two approaches:

  • Enterprise approach: Mobi approaches large organisations to utilise the app within
their workforce between colleagues. Mobi is promoted through the organisation to their
employees and can only connect with fellow colleagues.
  • Consumer approach: Mobi is marketed to the general public and used to connect
neighbours to each other to carpool to work. Mobi bases its marketing approach based
on congested suburbs with large population of drivers.

With relation to the background of Mobi, the concept was found in 2016 by Anthony Pizanias
and Daniel Logan, with extensive market testing being completed and development
commencing 2017. Co-founder are both NT NEM Leads and are looking to run a series of
meetups in the Northern Territory through 2018.

NEM Integration
Mobi aims to utilise NEM features to integrate payments between riders and drivers, with the
acceptance of funds being in either fiat or XEM.

The NEM integration will be completed in 4 phases, with discussions currently being held with
leading Victorian based leading software development firms. Phases will also be completed in
conjunction with app growth and development. Following the completion of the fourth phase,
Mobi is expected to have a growing national presence in all major capital cities and will be
considering targeting an international city in the South East Asian region.

Outcomes for NEM community
The NEM community will benefit in a variety of ways, which include:

  • The ability to begin NEM integration into the commute market immediately given Mobi is
    currently being tested.
  • Daily transfers of XEM as Mobi is tailored at being utilised on a repetitive basis.
  • First mover advantage for blockchain technology implemented into the commute market
  • Exclusive agreement that Mobi will solely provide XEM as a currency on its platform
  • Integration of XEM into other services related to commuting.
  • Use of XEMs in large organisations between colleagues.
  • Increasing exposure and support for NEM through founders and team.

Milestones and Timeline
Our Milestones will be base on 4 stages which will allow Mobi to integrate NEM features within
the app, while also expanding the presence of Mobi through Australia. To summarize, below are
the key drivers for each milestone:
Milestone 1: Finalisation of MVP and trial initiation.
Milestone 2: Expansion of Mobi presence through Melbourne with initial NEM features
integrated.
Milestone 3: Expansion of Mobi through Sydney and complete integration of NEM features.
Milestone 4: National expansion of app to all major Australian cities.

Conclusion
Ultimately, Mobi is an app that can have significant benefits on the environment, community,
and future of transport. We are seeking to allow NEM to join Mobi in changing the commute
industry and become the first blockchain integrated app focused on changing the commute
market.

Are you building this on Nem or are you just accepting Xem as payment? If you are building it on Nem, why do you need blockchain for this project? are you going to do an ICO or funding proposal? aren’t there already apps/websites built for car pool matching?

Hi @awu25,

We currently have the app on a centralised network but are still looking at an option to build on the NEM platform.

The reasoning behind doing so is that for our users, the margin provided to drivers is fairly low as the fees provided through third party gateways is quite high. Developing on NEM will allow us to lower these fees and give more back to the driver. Another reason we are looking at building on the platform is to provide complete transparency for our users. We use a rating system for drivers, and to ensure that no information is tampered with or manipulated, we’d prefer to have Mobi on a decentralised network.

There are a few other benefits that will be discussed in detail within our proposal.

Apologies I missed your other questions.

No, we will not be completing an ICO for Mobi as we feel a funding proposal is a more efficient option for us.

With relation to our other apps/websites around for carpooling - you’re correct in saying that there are, however Mobi is the only fully facilitating carpooling app focussed on the commute market. We have added features such as GPS navigation, chat and payment systems to make it as easy as possible to commute to work by carpool consistently. From our research, most other carpool platforms do not have such features and are loosely based around long distance travel. Those that do have the features that we have are focussed on traditional ridesharing (like Uber and Lyft) and have drivers there for profit which are much more expensive and not feasible to be used on a daily basis.

Thanks,
Anthony

Its true in this current society there will be electric cars, smaller more efficient cars, yet in the city this means little as a small car will take the same park as a large v8.
Also parking is becoming costly, fuel is expensive (yes even electric cars burn coal to date).
And I even live in a country town and can already see the issues of available infrastructure and space allotted to parking, and of course parking lots are ugly great asphalt or concrete multi level slabs that suck the environment dry.

I like how this may bring people together.
Space is a commodity these days, and especially when coupled with productive use of the limited space provided.
Definitely will be following this one.

Hi there!

Thanks for your feedback! We at Mobi also have believe these same issues will become more prominent as population growth continues and the lack of investment into substitution methods will only cause these issues to extend.

By providing the ability to fit more people into fewer cars we hope to also decrease the need for parking and the amount of resources needed to produce a vehicle or fuel it (whether that be electric or fuel).

Fortunately, NEM provides a basis for the sharing economy to become a real peer-to-peer network which society can benefit from.

Thanks,

Daniel

How do you hope to equal out, say the guy/gal who owns the car, pays rego fuel, insurance and maintenance, with say someone who will catch a ride and may never own a car?
People will be people, this stuff is a reality.
Do they pay up front like Uber, or is there some kind of collective contract arrangement, and if so it would have to be very flexible due to peoples everyday circumstances (move house/unit, get a different job, personal financial budgeting).
We all know a phone company will sign you up for 24 months and we all know that value is a lump payment, never really guaranteed, catching a ride on the daily might need some kind of agreement that folk can leave and enter freely.

I mean is this what you are doing?

So the payment will be made on a cost recovery basis opposed to models such as Uber who have drivers that are intending to make profit. As a Mobi driver you will be offsetting costs based on distance travelled and this algorithm has been in built in the app.

The rider and driver don’t have the ability to pay cash as it will become tricky so we have implemented a third party payment provider who can process this for us (for the mean time as we hope to implement XEM as a payment model).

Therefore, once the ride has been complete the driver will complete the ride on the app and the distance travelled is calculated based on the shortest route so there isn’t an issue based on drivers taking different routes to increase their fare.

Once the rides are complete the funds will be taken out of the riders account and paid to the drivers on a fortnightly basis.

The rides are placed on a weekly basis so there is no lock in contract and there is the ability to cancel the ride prior to 12 hours.

I hope this helps to answer your question.

I, for one, am super stoked about Mobi’s vision. The fewer cars on the road the better, IMO. Not to mention the number of lives it would save in all probability as well.

It looks like both Mobi and the company I’m a part of brifs.co [https://t.me/brifs] will soon be submitting a proposal for the NCF (NEM Community Fund). When that happens, you better believe that I’ll be voting YES for Mobi!

Cheers, @Anthony_Mobi for inviting me to join the convo and break-a-leg in all that you guys are building!

Thanks @Charlie_Muir! Those are some real benefits we are trying to impact society with!

Building on NEM has allowed many startups to really grow at rapid rates and build a strong community.

If you like I have also written a few articles about NEM and Mobi you can see here. https://medium.com/@callmeishmaell/can-blockchain-benefit-the-environment-8cd605b9da0e

Thanks again

Ok so you have a product/system that you plan to layout.
You are in Australia, so are you going to just outlay this on a major city like Sydney,Brisbane, Adelaide, etc?
I am wondering where is your penetration? the demographics? suburbs? Have you looked at country towns that are growing?
Sorry I have still not yet read the whitepaper, but have you got a specific demographic that you can target with this?
How do you plan to change peoples attitude to ride sharing?
And say if you hit the bigger cities, can you also market to growing country areas or are those people harder to market to?
cheers

hello
i have a question, how many users do you have now?
another thing is, could you replace the pictures with higher resolution?

Hi @xemnewbie

So with relation to our demographic we actually have a particular user base initially. Our most common demographic will likely be within university space, those who live a fair distance from campus and are quite adaptive to new technology. We are also targeting younger generations within the professional workforce initially as they will be more inclined to use new technology and will generally be quite aware of their costs. We have really narrowed the demographic which we will talk about more in our full proposal.

With relation to your second question, yes in fact we are trialing in a big country town! The app will be trialled in Darwin, NT with the major university campus and two large organisations within the cbd. We’re also looking into Geelong as a good market to enter. Ultimately the larger cities are preferable but there is still a huge portion of people who can benefit off Mobi in regional towns.

With relation to changing people’s attitude towards ridesharing, we feel partly that organisations such as Uber and others have almost paved the way for apps such as Mobi to enter the market and not have to worry too much about changing perception. We feel the hard work is done now that it’s widely acceptable to share a ride in this fashion!

With relation to marketing to smaller towns, it may not necessarily be more difficult but the uptake may be slower. We are basing the approach of Mobi on the assumption that higher density will mean more users as they live closer to each other so with smaller towns there may be less uptake as there are less people to connect with. Keep in mind however that this is still being tested, and with our trial we will be able to get a good understanding on the uptake that smaller country towns may have.

Hope this helps!

Thanks,
Anthony

Hi Takeuchi,

The app is still in its final stages expected to be deployed into the AppStore within the next few days. Internal testing has been complete with trials expected to begin with two organisations and a university campus.

We also have approx. 200 people who have preregistered to use the app once available.

With relation to your query regarding the pictures, of course let me look into this and get back to you.

Great questions guys! We do also have another website that helps explain some more features of the app at www.mobishare.com.au

Also touching on current users, we also have a spoken with multiple universities and organizations who have up to 20,000 students on their campus.
